Abstract

Flooding is one of the major problems in Indonesia, especially in areas with high rainfall and topography prone to inundation. This research utilizes the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data, which is processed using the D8 algorithm to determine the direction of water flow. In contrast, the Bernoulli equation calculates flow velocity based on elevation differences. To facilitate analysis and interpretation, the HSV color model was applied to visualize the intensity of the river flow through different color gradations. This method allows for more intuitive river flow patterns and energy distribution mapping without the need for risky direct measurements, especially during high water discharge. The visualization results greatly benefit watershed management, water resources planning, and flood mitigation more effectively and safely. In addition, this approach also has broad potential to be applied in other fields, such as fluid dynamics and environmental modeling, to support more sustainable water resources management. The case study shows that the method can accurately describe river flow patterns, even under complex flow conditions. The results of this research can serve as a reference for the government in setting watershed boundaries, designing water management strategies, and strengthening flood disaster mitigation measures. However, this study still has some limitations, such as not fully considering environmental change factors, including sedimentation and variations in river characteristics, which can be the focus of further research to improve the accuracy and effectiveness of this method.
