The Values of Leadership in the Local Wisdom of the Bugis People

Abstract

Leadership is about people leading and being led in an organization (government). Leadership requires a concept that becomes the basis or guideline for carrying out leadership tasks. This paper aims to discuss the idea of leadership in the local wisdom of the Bugis people. This paper uses a descriptive qualitative method by collecting data from the literature on local wisdom values of leadership in Bugis ethnicity and distributing questionnaires to respondents to discuss the implications of Bugis ethnic leadership values in government. The conclusion of the paper states that Bugis people recognize leadership values in the local wisdom of Bugis people in carrying out government duties, namely: Lempu (honesty); Getteng (firmness); Ada Tongeng (right words); Assitinajang (appropriateness/feasibility); Acca (wisdom/intelligence) and Warani (courage). The concept of leadership in Bugis ethnic local wisdom values becomes the principles and characteristics of a leader in carrying out governmental duties.
