The relationship between socio-demography and trip preference of Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine passengers’ trip preferences of socio demography when choosing modes of transportation to and from Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar City. The trip preference as socio-demography demonstrates the individual and trip characteristics as constraints to choosing the mode of transportation to the airport. This study employed a questionnaire to track passengers’ trips to the airport via various modes of transportation. The preferences of individuals demonstrate the relationship between individuals and trips of people who have traveled to and from the airport. The quantitative results demonstrated not only the trip to and from the airport, but also the relationship between socio-demography and passenger trip. The observation using questionairre with total respondent 179. The questionairres is used to interviews th respondent and record the last trips to airport on August 2019. The result using descriptive analysis to investigates the relationship between trip preferences. The relationship demonstrates that the trip preferences to and from the airport are quite similar. When traveling from airport to destination, the majority of people travel more than 15 kilometers in a private car and 10 to 15 kilometers in an online taxi. The majority of people take 30 to 40 minutes to get to and from the airport, and it can cost anywhere from IDR 10,000 to IDR 15,000 for a private car to IDR 50,000 or more for a taxi or online service. The findings indicated that people prefer to travel in private vehicles to airports and to use online taxi services to get to and from those airports.
