Abstract
This research aimed to evaluate the effects of the treatments using the purple sweet potatoes and sting ray on the nutritional status of the babies aged 6 - 11 months based on the anthropometry index of body weight according to the age (BW/A).The research was conducted in the work areas of Pattallasang Health Center, Takalar Regency. The research type was experimental with the pre-post test group design. The samples were chosen using the purposive sampling technique, and the 52 babies aged 6 - 11 months were divided into three groups: the first group comprising 20 babies intervened with the normal nutritional status, the second group comprising 12 babies intervened with the less nutritional status, and the third group comprising 20 babies as the control group and with the normal nutritional status but without any treatment. The data about the baby identity, the food intake, and body weight were analyzed using T-test and Chi square test, The research result indicated that 89% of the babies liked the purple sweet potatoes and sting ray and 11 o/o disliked them. The analysis result indicated that the mean food intake had fulfilled 80% AKG. There was a change of Z-score with the BW/A index because the three groups had gained significant body weights (p<0.05), the mean increase of the body weight in the intervention group with the normal nutritional status was better compared to the other two groups, as the result of Kruskal Wallis test showed insignificant change (p>0.05). Thus, the treatment with the purple sweet potatoes and sting ray had no positive effect on the nutritional status based on z-score and BW/A index.
