Abstract

The use of groundwater as a source of irrigation risks causing environmental damage and causing losses to farmers. Environmental damage is caused by taking groundwater in large quantities and generating a decrease in the groundwater level for a long time. Several efforts have been made to reduce these impacts, one of which is the construction of artificial reservoirs (embung), accommodating rainwater to increase groundwater reserves. The following impact is an increase in intake discharge to reduce irrigation costs. To find out the effectiveness of the construction of reservoirs on these two things, it is necessary to study the effect of reservoirs on increasing the discharge and income of farmers. The study was conducted with data obtained in two different conditions, namely before and after the construction of the reservoir at the same location. Discharge is measured using a water flow sensor, and economic data is obtained through a survey, then B/C ratio analysis is performed. The results showed that the construction of reservoirs could improve the performance of production wells. At the same discharge, the groundwater level decline is smaller, and farmers' incomes increase, which is indicated by the results of the analysis of the larger B/C ratio.
