Abstract
Irrigation can increase the levels of soil moisture. When there is enough water, the process of nutrient absorption and photosynthesis rate will run smoothly, thus increasing plant growth. This study aimed to determine the effects of readily available water on the growth of the chili pepper plant using a furrow irrigation system. An experimental setup was done in this study to observe the soil physical properties, the available soil water, and the water required for optimum growth of plants. The irrigation was done for seven days once during the growth period. The result showed that the soil texture (sandy loam) had total available water of 112 mm and readily available water of 55.9 mm. The average water requirement of chili pepper plants is 3.87 mm day−1, with the highest water requirement during flowering and fertilization 5.18 mm day−1. The growth of the Chili plant in furrow irrigation systems was 19.8 mm week−1, showing a tendency for disturbances during growth due to water stress at vegetative growth periods.
