Soft Decision Viterbi Decoder for Free Space Optical Through Maritime Atmosphere Channel

Abstract
In this paper, we investigated bit error rate (BER) performance of free space optical (FSO) with On-Off Keying (OOK) modulation through maritime atmosphere channel using convolutional encoder and soft decision Viterbi decoder as channel coding. This study aimed to improve BER performance of FSO communication system using channel coding as error correction. Soft decision Viterbi decoder with constraint length 3 has been applied in this study. The simulation results show that soft decision Viterbi decoder can improve BER performance.
