Abstract

People in urban communities nowadays are rather individualistic as they become less engaged in active and caring social relationship. This trend can be influenced by the design of housings that limit their access to the surrounding. This residence concept is called a gated community. In a gated community there are supporting amenities such as basic facilities and infrastructure as well as a dividing wall as security. In addition, there is a clear difference between the upper-class, middle-class, and low-class housing caused by the difference in income level of the residents. This research is descriptive research with qualitative and quantitative approaches. The research objective is to identify community interactions within the housing area based on the housing typology, analyse the impact of social interaction based on the housing typology, and also develop directions for social interactions. Data collection is collected through observation, interviews, literature review, and agency visits. The analytical methods used are simple linear regression analysis with SPSS 25, Importance Performance Analysis (IPA), and Scoring Analysis the results explained that the relationship of social interaction in the upper-class housing category is quite good; in middle-class housing category is good, while in low-class housing category is very good. The influence of social interaction on housing typology is influenced by the quality of facilities and the characteristics of residents. From the results of the IPA analysis, it is known that the activities that form social interaction relationships in all three housing are not qualified because they are still below 100%. The proposed improvement directive is the arrangement of residential environments in the form of facilities completeness to increase social sensitivity between residents.
