Abstract

The slum settlement area around the tourist attraction of Tanjung Bayam Beach, Kelurahan Tanjung Merdeka, is the entrance gateway to this tourist location. Therefore, the poor settlement conditions, also affect the image of the area, especially the tourist attractions. Although there are still pros and cons, the concept of slum tourism has become one of the alternatives to trigger an improvement in the quality of the environment and life of the people living in slum settlements. This research aims to identify the potential of slum settlements in Kelurahan Tanjung Merdeka from the point of view of tourist attractiveness, accessibility, socio-economic life, accommodation, and facilities. The methods used in this research are field observations for data collection and weighing for analysis. The findings of this study are the results of calculations that indicate that the slum settlements around Tanjung Bayam Coast tourist attractions are potentially to be developed. It is hoped that this research will be a benchmark for further research related to the development of settlement potential for the slum tourism industry and the improvement of the quality of the slum settlement environment.
