Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) and programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 (PD-L1) are biomarkers associated with tumor progression and immune escape, respectively. This study investigated the relationship between HER2 and PD-L1 expression and clinicopathological features in patients with gastric cancer in Makassar, Indonesia.METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving patients diagnosed with gastric cancer. HER2 and PD-L1 expression were quantified immunohistochemically and correlated with age, sex, cancer staging, histopathological grading, and tumor resectability.RESULTS: Among 34 patients, HER2 was positively expressed in 15% and PD-L1 in 40%. HER2 expression was significantly correlated with advanced cancer stage and poor histopathological grade (P<0.05). PD-L1 expression was significantly associated with tumor resectability (P<0.05). HER2 and PD-L1 expression was not significantly correlated with age or sex.CONCLUSIONS: HER2 and PD-L1 play distinct roles in the clinicopathological landscape of gastric cancer and could serve as prognostic indicators and therapeutic targets. Further research with larger cohorts is recommended. ## Keywords - Immunohistochemistry - Cancer - Medicine - Stage (stratigraphy) - Pathology - Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 - Immune system - Receptor - Oncology - Epidermal growth factor receptor - Internal medicine - Tumor progression - Cancer research - Over expression - Histopathology - Expression (computer science) - Stomach - Cancer cell - Cell - Tumor stage - Metastasis - HER2/neu - Epidermal growth factor - Trastuzumab --- Sumber: Discover Unhas — RIMS Universitas Hasanuddin.
