Abstract
Bioactive compounds used as functional food additives for health enhancement are being developed. Functional foods from natural substances have nutritional claims and health-promoting impacts. This chapter presents the role of bioactive compounds in food and health management, and recent advancements in bioactive compounds for the advancement of functional foods as a current and future market trend. New technology in controlled delivery for bioactive compounds with nanoparticles or nanoencapsulation is also discussed in this chapter by outlining the role, potential and challenges of new functional foods for human health.
