Abstract

The population of beef cattle in Indonesia increased by 3.39% during 2020–2021. Farmers generally only supply limited feed, thus cows' nutritional requirements are not fully addressed. When there is a mineral deficiency, the metabolic process is interrupted, resulting in suboptimal nutrition absorption. This study aims to determine the effect of mineral premix supplementation on digestible nutrient consumption and energy balance. This study used 16 cows that were selected from several farms in Yogyakarta's Sleman district. The feeding trial lasted for 71 days with a predetermined feed arrangement. Each group comprised eight cows and were fed the following diet regimes: P0: Forage 55%+45% Concentrate (HQFS 20%+Profeed® 80% Concentrate) and P1: Forage 55%+45% Concentrate (HQFS 20% + Profeed® 80 Concentrate)%+0.5% mineral premix booster). The study showed there was a significant difference (P<0.05) in digested protein comparing diets with and without the inclusion of mineral premix. The digested energy P1 has the propensity to be 2.14 Mcal higher than P0. The P1 value was greater than P0, P1 was 16.48 MCal and P0 was 14.34 MCal for DE (Digestible Energy) intake. P0 is known to balance DE at 2.26 MCal, whereas P1 is at 4.43 MCal. It is concluded that the inclusion of mineral premix impacts the digested protein in the body and improved the amount of energy available to the cow. The addition of mineral premix produced a greater energy balance which is 2.17 MCal higher than without the addition of mineral premix.
