Abstract
One of several factors affecting the nitrogen retention of feed in the animal is the type and form of the feedstuff used in the ration formulation. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the nitrogen (N) retention of local goats consuming complete feed which contained either fermented corn cone or unfermented corn cone as the main component of the diet. Eight local goats, with an average age between 1.5 and 2 years old, were randomly divided into two groups. The first group was given complete feed containing unfermented corn cone as a control (Group C), and the second group fed on a completed feed containing fermented corn cone as a treatment group (Group T). The study results indicated that the N intake of the animal in the Group T tended (P=0.075) to be higher than that of Group C. The feces of the animal in the animal in Group T contained higher (P= 0.030) N in comparing to that of animal in Group C. However, the N urine of both groups was similar (P=0.473). Overall, the N retention of both groups was significantly different (P=0.032), namely 7.2 g N/head/d and 13.0 g N/head/d for the Group C and T, respectively. In conclusion, the animal fed on complete feed containing fermented corn cone used the nitrogen of the feed more efficiently compared to that of animal given complete feed containing unfermented corn tumpi.
