Implementation of Safety Signs in Container Terminal Makassar

Abstract

Safety signs provide information as well as instructions concerning the hazard or dangers in the workplace. The correct comprehension of these signs is very important for doing the necessary feedback in the specific situation which are described. This study aims at hazard identification about safety sign in an effort to prevent work accident at the container terminal Makassar. This research is a qualitative-descriptive study with an observation stage using the hazard identification methods. Makassar container terminal has implemented the occupational health and safety focusing on facilities such as safety sign and personal protective equipment (PPE). From safety sign that have not been as: lack of warning sign about cargo handling for workers, the absence of warning sign place across the zebra cross for workers, lack of warning sign for workers at high altitude, and lack of understanding about the protective and safety at work. Using effective safety signs in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health standards not only helps create a safe workplace, it has the added benefit of improving morale by announcing to your employees that you are concerned for their safety. And if workers are safe, organizations are more successful.
