A stern flap is an additional component that is applied to fishing boats that aim to save energy and increase the speed of the boat when operating. This study used field experiment as the main method of study. 3 (three) shapes of stern flap designs which are plain flap, semi-rectangle flap, full rectangle flap were analyzed. The stern flap performance was measured in terms of boat speed, resistance and fuel consumption. The boat speed and fuel consumption were measured directly from the experiment while the boat resistance was computed using Maxsurf software. A real size fishing boat named RV. SBL01 was used in the field experiment. From the results of the research on the three predetermined forms of stern flap designs, the plain flap shape is the most optimal form in terms of speed, resistance and fuel consumption. ## Keywords - Stern - Rectangle - Marine engineering - Fuel efficiency - Energy consumption - Fishing - Engineering - Fuel oil - Simulation - Computer science - Environmental science - Automotive engineering - Electrical engineering - Mathematics - Waste management - Fishery - Geometry - Biology --- Sumber: Discover Unhas — RIMS Universitas Hasanuddin.
