Abstract
This research aimed to obtain information in deeply about the typology of social space occupation pattern of street vendor in Makassar city. Street Vendors were urban activity that got phenomenal development because their existence increasingly dominated space of city. Each road point was crowded by a number of traders by utilizing access of road and public space in different ways, this case can cause social problems. Research method used qualitative descriptive with phenomenology approach. Data collection was carried out by using in-depth interviews, print and electronic media. Data were collected by informants, namely street vendors and related persons. Data were analyzed by finding out the typology of social space occupation pattern of street vendors in Makassar city. This research aimed to obtain information in deeply about the typology of social space. Conclusion, Research shows that the process of street vendors occupy to take place a number of patterns or ways of occupation, namely, 1) the pattern to find out new place because they are not able to compete in a formal place, 2) non-formal pattern to non-formal pattern (pattern of saving economic life and utilizing opportunity, market potential, togetherness pattern and seeing the success of other people).
