Abstract

The main purpose of this present study is to study the spectra features of turmeric powder based on infrared reflectance data in wavelength range from 1000 to 2500 nm. Absorbance spectral data were acquired and recorded using FTIR instrument with co-added 64 scans 4x attenuated optics and 8cm−1 resolution. Spectral data were analysed using principal component analysis (PCA) and enhanced by means of second spectra derivative (D2). the results showed that spectra feature of turmeric powder samples mainly vibrated in respective wavelengths of 1354 nm, 1420 nm, 1560 nm, and the range between 1900 - 2100 nm. These spectra feature related to main quality attributes of turmeric that can be determined using infrared spectroscopy. Based on obtained results, we may conclude that turmeric quality parameters can be predicted based on spectra features coupled with proper multivariate approaches.
