Solution to abbreviated words in text messaging for personal assistant application

Abstract
Text to Speech (TTS) application for the abbreviation on writing SMS (Short Message Service) text has been established in this study. SMS allows users to send and receive a message with limited to 160 characters. TTS technology is used to read the abbreviation of SMS with voice output to facilitate users in communicating, especially when driving. This study focuses on the process of normalizing input data in the form of abbreviation text on SMS in Indonesian. The text is converted into sound by utilizing Google Text to Speech API. The data used are 126 words abbreviations in Indonesian language most common in daily SMS. The process of collecting data was obtained through an online questionnaire that was distributed to 526 respondents. The results show that the system achieves 81.08% accuracy. This result was obtained from reading SMS message content consisting of standard words containing abbreviations based on the database created.
