Among these, fungal exopolysaccharides (EPS) are of particular interest because of their potential applications in pharmaceutical and industrial sectors. This study evaluated the EPS production potential of the mangrove-derived endophytic fungus Aspergillus terreus . The fungus was initially cultured on potato dextrose agar and then subjected to submerged fermentation in Basal Salt Solution medium. Key cultural conditions affecting fungal growth and EPS yield were optimized. EPS was recovered through protein removal using trichloroacetic acid followed by ethanol precipitation, resulting in a water-soluble polysaccharide. Enhanced EPS production was observed under acidic conditions with sucrose as the carbon source, reaching peak levels after 48 hours at pH 3.0. and 37 °C. These findings indicate stress-induced EPS biosynthesis and identify A. terreus as a valuable candidate for biopolymer production. ## Keywords - Plant use of endophytic fungi in defense - Aspergillus terreus - Fungus - Fermentation - Sucrose - Potato dextrose agar - Biology - Food science - Botany - Agar - Sponge - Marine fungi - Yield (engineering) - Galactose - Ethanol fuel - Yeast extract - Microorganism - Polysaccharide - Spore - Microbiology - Industrial microbiology - Lasiodiplodia theobromae - Agar plate - Biopolymer --- Sumber: Discover Unhas — RIMS Universitas Hasanuddin.
