Abstract

Objective: Enamel is the outermost tissue of the tooth that is susceptible to demineralization due to add exposure, leading to increased solubility. Innovative restorative materials with bioactive properties, such as composite resins containing surface pre-reacted glass-ionomer (S-PRG) fillers, can inhibit demineralization and strengthen enamel by releasing fluoride ions. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of fluoride ion release from a composite resin containing 5-PRG filler on enamel solubility. Material and Method: A total of 24 bovine cubes and 36 restorative disks were divided into seven treatment groups, with each group consisting of 6 samples: Group1: bovine cube, Group 2: RC BP(Beautifil PackableTM), Group 3: RC PV (Polofill Supra VocoTM), Group 4: RM GIC (Resin Modified Glass lonomerTM), Group5: bovine cube + RC BP(Beautifil PackableTM), Group 6: bovine cube + RC PV (Polofill Supra VocoTM), and Group 7: bovine cube + RM GIC. Enamel solubility was measured for 6 days using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer, and fluoride ion release was measured with an ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer. Results: The bovine + RC BP group showed the lowest enamel solubility, while also demonstrating maximum fluoride ion release on days 1-6. The RC PV group exhibited the highest enamel solubility. Conclusion: Composite resin with S-PRG filler can release fluoride ions, which reduce the solubility of enamel.
