# Effectiveness of clinical practice guidelines implementation for pediatric patients who passed away in the pediatric care unit of general hospital, City of Makassar (January-December 2023)

## Abstract
BACKGROUND: Ensuring high-quality medical care is crucial in preventing medical errors and improving patient safety. Clinical practice guidelines (CPG) are developed to improve the quality of healthcare services and ensure patient safety. Assessing the implementation of CPG for pediatric patients who have passed away can offer significant insights into adherence levels and their impact on hospital effectiveness. This study seeks to evaluate the efficiency of CPG application at RS General for pediatric mortality cases in 2023.METHODS: This research employs descriptive study with a mixed-methods approach. Quantitative data were obtained from the hospital’s electronic medical records system from January to December 2023, while qualitative data were gathered through in-depth interviews with pediatric specialists and the hospital’s medical committee.RESULTS: During the study period, out of 434 pediatric patients who passed away, 42 had medical records that conformed to the hospital’s CPG framework. The level of compliance with CPG implementation was assessed across multiple parameters, including anamnesis (38.09% fully compliant, 35.71% partially compliant, and 26.19% non-compliant), physical examination (52.38% fully compliant, 42.85% partially compliant, and 4.76% non-compliant), diagnostic criteria (9.53% fully compliant, 50% partially compliant, and 40.47% non-compliant), supporting examinations (4.76% fully compliant, 45.24% partially compliant, and 50% non-compliant), and therapy (30.95% fully compliant, 42.85% partially compliant, and 26.19% non-compliant).CONCLUSIONS: Compliance with CPG implementation varied across aspects, with the highest compliance seen in anamnesis and physical examination, while the lowest compliance was seen in supporting examinations. These findings highlight the need to improve CPG compliance through structured training, routine audits, and integration of standard protocols into hospital clinical practice to improve pediatric patient safety in hospitals.
