Although it has been widely studied, several wound dressings, both conventional and modern, have varying effectiveness in responding to the wound healing process. Research on the differences in effectiveness between gelatin and hydrocolloids (HCDs) in wound healing is still limited. This study aimed to analyze the comparative effectiveness of gelatin spray and HCDs therapy on wound healing and its effect on increasing levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and inflammatory factor interleukin (IL)-6.METHODS: A true experimental study was conducted on Rattus novergicus rats who had undergone a wound model. The three groups (N.=9) consisting of no treatment, sprayed with gelatin spray, or covered with HCDs received the intervention and were measured on day 2 (N.=3), day 7 (N.=3), and day 14 (N.=3). At all three times, wound diameter measurements and ELISA (VEGF and IL-6 levels) were analyzed.RESULTS: Gelatin spray and HCDs have the same effectiveness in reducing wound diameter. Gelatin spray significantly reduces VEGF levels but not HCDs, although both do not affect IL-6 levels.CONCLUSIONS: Gelatin spray and HCDs have similar effectiveness in wound healing, both macroscopically and molecularly. Similar studies can be conducted further with various doses of gelatin and HCDs. ## Keywords - Gelatin - Wound healing - Medicine - Biomedical engineering - Gelatin sponge - Inflammatory response - Surgery - Rat model - Wound care - Granulation tissue --- Sumber: Discover Unhas — RIMS Universitas Hasanuddin.
