Despite the various management strategies available, the recurrence rate of urethral stricture remains high. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of recurrent and nonrecurrent urethral stricture at Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital in Makassar.METHODS: This observational study employed a cross-sectional retrospective design. Medical records of urethral stricture patients from January 2019 to December 2023 were reviewed. The analyzed variables included age, Body Mass Index (BMI), stricture length, stricture location, comorbidities, type of procedure, etiology, and Erectile Hardness Score (EHS). Statistical analyses were performed using the χ2 test, Fisher’s Exact Test, t-test, and Mann-Whitney Test, with a significance level of P<0.05.RESULTS: Among 221 patients, 62.9% had nonrecurrent stricture, while 37.1% experienced recurrence. The primary risk factor was hypertension (42.5%). The most common stricture location was the bulbous urethra (55.7%), with 90.5% of strictures measuring less than 3 cm. Internal urethrotomy was the predominant procedure (91.0%). Significant differences were observed in BMI (P=0.004) and EHS (P<0.001), while other variables, including age, location, stricture length, procedure type, and etiology, did not show statistically significant differences (P>0.05).CONCLUSIONS: BMI and EHS were significantly associated with recurrent urethral stricture. These findings highlight the importance of considering these factors in the prevention and management of urethral stricture to minimize recurrence risk. ## Keywords - Medicine - Surgery - Urethral stricture - Urethra - Complication - Stenosis - Urinary Fistula - Urinary system - MEDLINE - Finite element method --- Sumber: Discover Unhas — RIMS Universitas Hasanuddin.
