Abstract
Abstract This study aims to describe and compare the development of the beef cattle population in South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi Provinces. The method used is descriptive quantitative, utilizing secondary data obtained from official publications of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the Directorate General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health, and related agencies in each province. The analysis results show that the beef cattle population in South Sulawesi is relatively higher and has experienced consistent increases from year to year, while West Sulawesi shows more fluctuating growth with a smaller population scale. This difference is influenced by regional potential factors, government program support such as artificial insemination in South Sulawesi, and the priority of livestock policy in West Sulawesi, which is more diversified into goats and poultry. Comparatively, South Sulawesi has advantages in terms of population scale, supply chain, and contribution as a center of beef cattle production in Eastern Indonesia. Meanwhile, West Sulawesi plays an important role in the diversification of livestock commodities, although its contribution to the beef cattle population is still relatively small.
