Abstract
Abstract Bactrocera spp. are polyphagous pests that attack horticultural crops. Vitex trifolia has the potential to be used as a pesticide for pest control. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Vitex trifolia in controlling Bactrocera dorsalis using plant extract powders at concentrations of 0%, 1%, 3%, and 5%. A completely randomised design was used with five replicates, each using ten adult insects consisting of five males and five females. The observation parameters included the percentage of presence, visitation fluctuations, repellency percentage, number of punctures, number of larvae, percentage and classification of infested fruits, and physical and organoleptic test results. The results showed that the powdered extract formulation of Vitex trifolia leaves significantly reduced fruit fly activity compared to that of the control. The highest percentage of adult presence was observed in the control group (0%). Visit fluctuations were higher in the control group than in the treatment group. The 5% concentration showed the highest repellency value of 80.59% (class 2, category: very high). The highest number of punctures and larvae was observed in the control group (0%). The lowest number of larvae was found in the treatment group with a 5% concentration of the essential oil. The highest percentage and classification of infested fruit were in the control group, with 92.29% of fruit infested, categorized as “very severe.” Physical and organoleptic test results showed a moisture content of 3.80%—form: powder, colour: light green, aroma: characteristic aroma of Vitex trifolia
