The mandible, with its distinct development and remodeling, is key in age estimation. CT scans in which superior to X-rays in resolution and accuracy has become a standard in skeletal identification. This study aims to determine whether mandibular bone morphometrics from 3D CT scan images can be used in determining age estimation in the South Sulawesi population, Indonesia.METHODS: This retrospective cross-sectional study estimates age based on mandibular bone in 3D CT scans, using data from January 2020 to December 2023. Mandibular measurements were taken in OsiriX® and analyzed with SPSS and R software. Logistic regression assessed age estimates with significance at P<0.001.RESULT: The study analyzed 240 participants aged 6-50 years, with 136 males and 104 females. Logistic regression showed that each unit increase in right and left ramus breadth significantly raised the likelihood of being in an older age group. Mean values of ramus breadth increased with age, supporting the role of skeletal growth in age estimation.CONCLUSIONS: The study found that mandibular bone morphometrics, particularly maximal ramus breadth, accurately estimate age in females. Specific measurement standards were established, revealing a pattern of size increase during growth and a decrease in older age groups. ## Keywords - Logistic regression - Estimation - Morphometrics - Medicine - Indonesian - Population - Orthodontics - Regression analysis - Dentistry - Forensic anthropology - Regression - Linear regression - Mandible (arthropod mouthpart) - Age groups - Bone age - Standard error - Statistical analysis - Mandibular ramus - Computed tomography - Forensic dentistry - Retrospective cohort study --- Sumber: Discover Unhas — RIMS Universitas Hasanuddin.
