# The relationship between leptin expression and the incident of chemotherapy resistance in ovarian carcinoma

## Abstract
BACKGROUND: Previous studies have reported that high expression of leptin and its receptors impacts the proliferation, migration, and invasion of ovarian cancer cells. The aim of this study was to find relationship between leptin expression in ovarian cancer tissue and the incidence of chemoresistance.METHODS: The cross-sectional study included 63 ovarian carcinoma patients was performed at Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia between July 2022 and January 2023, diagnosed by histological test that still has paraffin block at hospital and has undergone surgery to remove ovarian carcinoma and undergoing chemotherapy for ovarian carcinoma.RESULTS: Sixty-three ovarian carcinoma patients were sampled in this study, consisting of 33 (52.4%) chemotherapy-resistant ovarian carcinoma patients and 30 (47.6%) chemotherapy-sensitive patients. The cell types in this study sample were serous (N.=31, 49.20%), clear cell (N.=4, 6.35%), mucinous (N.=8, 12/70%), endometroid (N.=5, 7.94, undifferentiated (N.=10, 15.87%), Brenner tumor (N.=1, 1.59%), and others (N.=4, 6.35%). Tissue leptin expression in this study sample was classified into two, namely high leptin expression (N.=37, 58.7%) leptin expression was low (N.=26, 41.3%). subjects with high leptin expression have a 6.4 times risk of developing chemotherapy-resistant ovarian carcinoma (OR 6.41 CI 95% [2.09-10.6]).CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study have particular value for predicting the incidence of chemo-resistance in ovarian carcinoma, which may provide some clues for planning individual chemotherapy regimens.
