Q1Abstract
This study aims to replicate the original factor structure of the Student Perception of Opportunity Competence Development (SPOCD) questionnaire and perform a model comparison using item factor analysis (IFA). The Indonesian SPOCD was administered to 594 high school students (255 males, 339 females) in the Jakarta metropolitan area of Indonesia. The results of the IFA showed that the higher-order multidimensional factor model of the SPOCD was acceptable and replicated the original model. Based on a statistical model comparison, we found the higher-order multidimensional model was superior to the unidimensional model. Moreover, each subscale of the SPOCD demonstrated good internal consistency, with omega coefficients of 0.720 to 0.800, and the total scale demonstrated good reliability, with an omega coefficient of 0.892. Thus, the Indonesian SPOCD questionnaire with higher-order multidimensional models appears to be a valid and reliable tool for assessing student perceptions of opportunity competence development in mathematics. Finally, separate scores for each SPOCD aspect can be used for diagnostic purposes in learning and has implications for the practice of mathematics teaching. Teachers can also use SPOCD scores as input for improving or maintaining aspects of opportunity competence development in their classes.
