Abstract

The river systems in Kalimantan play a pivotal role in fostering economic development and facilitating water transportation. Given the vast expanse of the Kalimantan River. spanning thousands of kilometers, and its distinct flow pattern originating from mountainous terrains to the sea, optimizing water transportation becomes imperative. Fast vessels emerge as a viable solution to expedite travel time along the Kalimantan River. The region experiences challenges such as river silting due to sedimentation and high tides. In response, a water jet propulsion system proves instrumental in navigating shallow conditions with a low draft. In the present study, a parent-ship design approach is adopted. Using this approach, the main dimensions of the ship can be determined namely Length overall: 73.6 m, Breadth: 12 m, Depth: 6 m, Draft: 4.5 m, Maximum Velocity: 36 Knots. Furthermore, the proposed water jet propulsion system eliminates traditional propellers and ship rudders, minimizing resistance and enhancing efficiency in the challenging water conditions of the Kalimantan River.
