Abstract

The logical sequencing and arranging of all aspects of an organization’s operations to bring the advantages of mass production to high diversity is known as group technology (mixed quantity production). Group technology is the basic theory of modern manufacturing in shipyards. In Samarinda there are dozens of small size shipyards but most of the production process is still traditional. So that the application of the basic theory which tends to be easy to implement is considered suitable. Based on the results of observations and data collection, there are several easy ways to increase the productivity of the shipyard. First, by placing different production processes in different locations. Second, in successive production processes, the continuing production processes are placed close together but in different locations. With different locations, the production process can be carried out in parallel. Third, the production process that requires a lot of support from the workshop, the location is shifted close to the workshop. Lastly, this shipyard only works on tugboats. So it is advisable to make a closed workshop in the tugboat construction area.
