Abstract
The fleet of ships around the island of Kalimantan is much more than the fleet of ships located on the island of Java. The company that is scored is a shipyard that specializes in building and repairing. Although the market in East Kalimantan is promising, there are dozens of shipyards. Companies must be competitive to survive in business. But to be able to grow, the company needs something that can outperform its competitors. Attribute that allows an organization to outperform its competitors is called competitive advantage. An analytical tool that aids in determining a company’s competitive edge is the Competitive Profile Matrix (CPM). Based on the results of interviews with several shipbuilding practitioners, there are 6 factors that can be used as factors in CPM, namely: government support and political situation, quality materials available at competitive prices, availability of reliable suppliers, threat of competition and new competitors, the power of consumers on the market, and the absence of substitute products. Scores from this companies and four others on CPM were obtained based on data obtained from internet sources and observations. This company tends to be better than other companies on the factor of the power of consumers on the market. So, the proposed strategy is forward integration.
