Abstract

Abstract Production scheduling in the industrial sector has a crucial role as the optimization of sources. The companies attempt to have an effective and efficient scheduled to increase the productivity with minimum lead time and cost. The objective of this research is to determine the production schedule of the machines at the minimum level in a manufacturing company to obtain the minimum makespan value. The planning with minimum makespan value will implement in the production process. Production scheduling performed by a PVC pipe factory named PT J during the time based on the longest production time. During the production process, ineffective production planning usually occurred, which caused longer lead time to create a massive production. This research aims to provide the optimal solution for appropriate job sequence to obtain the lowest makespan value as a result. In this research, the authors use two comparative methods, namely Campbell Dudek Smith (CDS) method and Dannebring method to determine the optimal job sequence. According to data processing, by implementing those methods, it obtained the makespan results. The makespan value from CDS method is 14,943.51 minutes with the job sequence J1 – J6 – J2 – J7 – J3 – J4 – J5 on the iteration 1, and the job sequence J1 – J6 – J2 – J7 – J4 – J3 – J5 on iteration 2 and 3. By using Dannebring method, the makespan value is 15,152.61 minutes with the work sequence J1 – J6 – J2 – J7 – J4 – J3 – J5. The makespan value from CDS method on the iteration 1 is 14,943.51 minutes. This value is 14.18% less than the company’s method used with 17,412.48 minutes as the makespan value.
