Abstract

Preface Assalamu Alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh I am delighted that our 1st MarSAVE International Symposium 2018 Proceedings are now published in the IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science (EES). Like all other places around the globe, our marine and fisheries resources are under increasingly complex and severe threats, due to anthropogenic activities as well as natural disasters. In this 21st Century there is an urgent need not only to address these threats, but also to strengthen resilience at multiple levels, and seek ways to adapt to unavoidable change. In this context, science has a key role to play, informing policy and management, exploring solutions and catalyzing change. The theme of the 1st MarSAVE International Symposium is "Strengthening Marine Resilience for Sustainable Development Goals". The plenary sessions will set the scene, with Dr. Gellwyn Yusuf, the Secretary of the Indonesian National Planning Agency as our keynote speaker, followed by eminent scientists from the UK, Australia, the Netherlands, USA, New Zealand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Germany, and Indonesia as the host country. A series of parallel sessions is then focus on topics including Sustainable and resilient fisheries and aquaculture; Understanding and coping with climate change and ocean acidification; Marine Biodiversity, Biology and Ecology; Marine Conservation; Marine Biotechnology and Genomics; Post-harvest processing, food safety and food security; Resilient socio-ecological systems; Sustainable Marine Tourism; and Technology for coastal and small-island resilience. List of Steering Committee and Organising Committee are available in this PDF.
