Abstract

The simple life of coastal communities, including their far from luxurious daily routine, has not seen any progress over the years. The living standards do not get better, despite having high work ethics. This study investigates relationships between poverty and various aspects of coastal communities' life, such as education, culture, traditions, values, daily activities, and personality. The importance of this research is to contribute ideas for the policies that will be undertaken. The method used was a modified corpus linguistic method to search for frequency occurrences based on thematic similarities discourse from fictional and non-fiction texts. The findings obtained are in the form of quantification of the frequency occurrences of single and combined themes. The single theme of poverty particularly shows the same frequencies (34), both in fictional and non-fiction texts.
