Abstract

The growing media is an external factor that affects the germination and growth of plant seedlings. This study aims to determine the character of growing media, seed germination and growth of Pometia pinnata Forst seedlings. The growing media is made from Sidoarjo’s mud soil mixed with rice husk, compost and cow manure. The germination and growth of P. pinnata Forst seedling were investigated for 60 days. Result of analysis i.e. organic matter ranged of 12.39-16.49%; bulk density ranged of 0.34-0.58gcm−3; particle density ranged of 0.77-1.72gcm−3 and aggregate ranged of 0.46-0.94mm on four types of growing media. Percentage of seed germination of P. pinnata Forst is a range of 70-90%. The average of growth of P. pinnata Forst seedlings is plant height ranged of 14.2-15.8cm; stem diameter ranged of 0.27-0.3cm and number of leaves of10 strand on four types of growing media. This study concluded that the growing media of 1 has the best character that causes the highest percentage of seed germination and the best growth of P. pinnata Forst seedlings
