Abstract

This study presents data on alteration and ore mineralogy, including fluid inclusion petrography, in the Domain Tanjung, Awak Mas, Sulawesi, Indonesia, which is part of the Latimojong Metamorphic Complex. The area is covered with a thick sedimentary succession of phyllites, slate, metasandstone, metasiltstone, and meta-claystone, which overlies basement gneisses, schists, and ultramafic rocks. A dike and stocks of granite, diorite, and monzonite are also intruded into this sedimentary sequence. Mineralization styles formed in brecciated quartz vein, stockwork, and sheeted, at open space-filling in fracture or disseminated in host rock. Optical petrography, ore microscopy, and XRD analysis were used in the mineralogical studies. Phyllite, dark carbonaceous phyllite, and red hematitic phyllites made of quartz, albite, carbonate, muscovite, chlorite, hematite, and biotite make up the majority of lithology. Three forms of host rock alteration are known in the phyllite: albite-chlorite-quartz-pyrite, albite-carbonate-ankerite-quartz-pyrite, and quartz-opaque minerals. Pyrite was shown to exist in three phases: framboidal, fine band cubic, and coarse cubic. The mineral pyrite breccia, connected to the tennantite-tetrahedral, contains gold as an inclusion. Chalcopyrite, covellite, and bornite are copper minerals. Galena and sphalerite are both refined, free grains that are uneven. In petrography, two-phase liquid-rich inclusions are combined with single-phase liquid or vapor inclusions. A non-igneous origin is frequently assumed to be indicated by characteristics of alteration, mineralization, and fluid inclusion petrography, typical of mesothermal.
