Abstract
Ferry Ro-Ro ship cluster III is a ship with a gross tonnage of less than 500 GT. The term cluster III is based on the definition of the ferry port class III, which services less than 500 GT of ferry Ro-Ro ship. This study aims to determine the optimum ship main dimensions in each of the third sub-clusters. Several preliminary designs of ferry Ro-Ro ships will be used in the empirical formula as the sample ships or research data. The determination of the sample ship’s main dimension will use the ship’s characteristics as a basis. The determination of the ship’s loading capacity for vehicles such as cars, the depth, and the speed of the sample’s ship will use the ship’s length and breadth as variables. Further, determining the ship’s breadth and depth will use the ship draught as the variable. While the ship block coefficient will be determined using the ship length and speed. The main dimensions and block coefficient are variables of the tonnage and weight of the ship construction. The results show that ferry Ro-Ro ship cluster III can be grouped into seven tonnage sub-clusters and seven load capacity clusters. Three ship breadth variations had determined the optimum ship main dimensions in the seven grids of sub-cluster. The criteria are the ship’s main dimension with the highest optimum size index.
