Abstract

The development of vehicle ad hoc network (VANET) technology is increasingly developing; this can be achieved because road traffic simulators and network communications are complex and always changing, and a hybrid framework is often required. One hybrid approach is by simulating vehicles in a network, combining Urban Mobility Simulation (SUMO) with OMNET++, which is widely used in discrete simulations, and traffic modeling, which is also used to detect nodes that have experienced losses and are prone to errors. In addition, traffic modeling contributes to traffic recovery, which is very important for developing complex frameworks. This research proposes integrating an extension model as the main contribution to the development of SUMO, which can quickly compare the performance of VANET networks in several scenarios (gridded maps and real maps). This research presents guidelines for fast VANET simulation by producing average values of PDR, packet loss, and end-to-end delay, which is much faster than previous research, so it can be concluded that node movements in the simulation area can be found within 3 seconds.
