BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a condition of progressive loss of kidney function that ultimately requires kidney replacement therapy (dialysis or transplantation). When undergoing hemodialysis, there are several medical problems that are at risk of occurring. Hypertension is a common finding in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients undergoing hemodialysis.METHODS: This study is an observational study with a cross-sectional design conducted in January-June 2023 at Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital, Makassar, Indonesia. The subjects in this study were patients diagnosed with CKD who were undergoing dialysis.RESULTS: A total of 230 patients who routinely underwent dialysis and met the criteria participated in the research. One hundred seventy-three (74.9%) of these patients included hypertension. The quick of blood (QB) and dialysis fluid flow rate (QD) values were also found to have no significant differences between groups of hypertensive and non-hypertensive patients. However, ultrafiltration rate goals (UFR) were reported to have a significant influence on the incidence of hypertension in dialysis patients, it was found that the UFR value in hypertensive patients was 1344, lower than that in non-hypertensive patients 1615.CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of hypertension in CKD patients undergoing dialysis was 74.9% and the ultrafiltration rate (UFR) goal was a factor that had a significant influence on the incidence of hypertension in CKD patients undergoing routine dialysis.
