Abstract

BACKGROUND: This study investigates the clinical outcomes of ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients with a history of diabetes mellitus (DM) compared to those newly diagnosed with DM at the time of admission at Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital. The primary focus was on assessing the severity of coronary lesions, mortality rates, recurrent infarction events, heart failure events, and stroke events between these two patient groups.METHODS: This observational study involved a comparative analysis of STEMI patients with a history of DM and those newly diagnosed with DM upon admission. Key variables such as age and ejection fraction were also examined to determine their association with clinical outcomes.RESULTS: The findings indicate that patients with a history of DM had lower mortality rates compared to those newly diagnosed with DM. Additionally, age and ejection fraction were identified as significant factors associated with clinical outcomes.CONCLUSIONS: The study underscores the necessity for further research to elucidate the impact of DM on STEMI patient outcomes and emphasizes the importance of effective DM management in improving the prognosis of acute myocardial infarction patients.
