Abstract

Blockchain technology (BC) is renowned for its potential to enhance distributed systems, data transparency, privacy, and security within Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). In this study, we conducted a random selection of research papers from the period between 2018 and 2024, accumulating a total of 70 papers. Almost all articles use sha256 and decentralization, we evaluate and compare with other hashing. Tests conducted on blockchain hashing algorithms using a setup with three decentralization peers (two offline and one online) in a centralized WSN revealed that Scrypt outperforms Argon2, SHA256, and Bcrypt in processing speed, completing 400 blockchains in just 1193 seconds. However, for memory efficiency, Bcrypt is preferable, using only 96 KB, compared to Argon2 at 128 KB and Scrypt and SHA256 both at 112 KB.
