## Abstract
Abstract Transmission of local knowledge to younger generations plays a vital role in safeguarding its inheritance and continuity across generations. This study aims to determine how local knowledge (ethnoecology) is transmitted to the younger generation living in the Maros-Pangkep karst area regarding the preservation of the karst landscape’s ecology. Data collection was focused on the younger respondent, to determine how the older generation transfer their karst ethnoecology to the younger generation. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. The study show that the villagers around the Maros-Pangkep karst area possess local knowledge to maintain sustainability of the natural environment, recognised as ma’tutu ale ’. The results discover that the transmission of local knowledge has been carried out since childhood. The results also show that the transfer of knowledge is not only carried out by the nuclear family but also by various parties related to the individual respondents.
