Abstract

Voltage quality problem, such as voltage drop, or voltage sag, is a common issue faced in electrical power systems, especially when dealing with large inductive loads. This challenge is encountered by one of the cement factories in Indonesia, often referred to as the largest cement factory in Eastern Indonesia. The electric motors used in cement production are significant contributors to reactive power in the electrical system of PT. Semen Tonasa, thereby exacerbating voltage drop issues. A system’s concern is when it fails to maintain voltage levels within acceptable limits, leading to further problems such as load shedding or even damage to electrical equipment. One of possible solution to address this issue, is the installation of D-STATCOM. Therefore, the research aims to analyze the application of D-STATCOM to improve voltage quality in Semen Tonasa electrical system using Particle Swarm Optimization method. Feasiblity analysis of DSTATCOM installation is also conducted in this research. The results indicate a positive impact on the voltage increase, which initially at 0.94 p.u., can be raised above 0.95 p.u., or by approximately $1 \%$.
