Abstract
The main problem in brackish water treatment is the high salinity level. Activated carbon is known to have a good ability in clean water treatment, so this study uses activated carbon as a medium. There have been several previous studies to reduce salinity and chloride in brackish water, research using activated carbon was able to remove chloride and reduce salinity to produce clean water but this reduction still did not produce water that met the expected quality standards of clean water. Therefore, in this study, decreasing the salinity of chloride will use coconut shell as surfactant activation so that it can produce clean water according to the salinity quality standard. The purpose of this study was to analyze the amount of reduction in water salinity using coconut shell-activated carbon as filter media. The results are expected to be used as design considerations for the application of the process of reducing salinity levels using coconut shell-activated carbon adsorbents.
