However, terrestrial networks have limited coverage in remote areas and are vulnerable to natural disasters. With its broader coverage, satellite technology offers solutions to these challenges but often faces communication latency issues. To address this, this paper discusses the application of satellite-based edge computing in IoT systems to enhance data processing efficiency and strengthen the system’s resilience and robustness. We compare the performance of satellite networks with conventional networks through tests involving 10, 50, and 100 users, using throughput and latency as critical indicators. The evaluation results show that while satellite networks have higher latency than conventional networks, edge computing significantly improves data transmission efficiency. The proposed system can enhance IoT performance in areas difficult for terrestrial networks to reach. ## Keywords - Computer science - Base station - Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution - Satellite - Internet of Things - Base (topology) - Edge computing - Real-time computing - Computer network - Telecommunications - Embedded system - Engineering - Aerospace engineering - Mathematics - Mathematical analysis --- Sumber: Discover Unhas — RIMS Universitas Hasanuddin.
