Interleukin 10 (IL-10) is an anti-inflammatory cytokine linked to the pathomechanism of intussusception. The inflammatory process is more severe when IL-10 levels are lower. Because little research exists on IL-10 in cases of intussusception, this study aimed to compare the levels of IL-10 in patients with intussusception between those who did and did not undergo resection.METHODS: This was an observational cross-sectional study of 10 intussusception patients from September 2021 to October 2023. IL-10 levels were quantified using the human IL-10 enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit. Statistical test results were considered significant if the P value was <0.05.RESULTS: Of the 10 participants, seven received anastomotic resections, and three underwent milking procedures. When compared to milking methods, a significant difference in IL-10 levels was demonstrated among intussusception patients who underwent anastomotic resection (P=0.017). The highest IL-10 level was 208 pg/mL, achieved in the sample with anastomotic resection. An additional analysis of the onset of intussusception revealed that it significantly affected the levels of IL-10 (P=0.032).CONCLUSIONS: Patients undergoing anastomosis or stoma resection had significantly higher levels of IL-10 than those undergoing a milking procedure. The IL-10 levels were elevated according to the onset of intussusception. ## Keywords - Intussusception (medical disorder) - Medicine - Resection - Bowel resection - Gastroenterology - Cross-sectional study - Internal medicine - General surgery - Surgery - Pathology --- Sumber: Discover Unhas — RIMS Universitas Hasanuddin.
