Abstract

Abstract Jack-up is one of the offshore structures which may be categorized as a column structure where the axial compression and lateral pressure take place. As a column structure, piles and braces may buckle caused by loads. Therefore, the design of a column should be conducted to know the characteristic of buckling for piles and braces. The aim of this study is to analyze eigen value to buckling on a beam of the jack-up offshore structure. The nonlinear finite element is adopted to analyze the eigen value and the simple beam is selected for simple calculation. One of the end beams is assumed to be fixed and the other is free. The result obtained by nonlinear finite element is compared to the analytical solution. It is found that the eigen value obtained by nonlinear finite element is almost identic with the analytical solution.
