Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify soil from bedrock weathering in Palu City, generally derived from molassic sedimentary rock, containing clay minerals, the properties of the soil are determined by the type of clay mineral content. Soil samples were taken from four points with different altitude and location in West Palu City. Soil samples are prepared and prepared based on the analytical method used, which is analyzed using the X-Ray Diffraction test method to determine variations in mineral content and the X-Ray Flouriscens method to determine the chemical constituents of the soil. The analysis results show the presence of Kaolinite, Amesite (kaolinite group) and Montmorillonite (smectite group) minerals, in addition to the clay mineral group also contains Albit minerals with a large enough percentage in each sample and minerals Quartz, Calcite, Pyroxyne, Clay minerals found in soil in the region. The West hammer, although in a small percentage, causes the soil to become clayey. Likewise, the presence of clay grains composed of Si02 elements with a large enough percentage in each sample and Al203, Fe (Hematite, Fe203) and causing the remaining soil to turn red.
