Abstract
Solar radiation is a natural light that can be utilised as an energy source in buildings. Maximising daylight energy will reduce energy use as a source of artificial lighting in buildings. Office buildings require the highest consumption of electrical energy compared to other building functions so it is necessary to think about natural light distribution by considering visual comfort and thermal comfort for space users in activities. The shadow that occurs around tall buildings is a barrier to the distribution of natural light and the shadow will move according to the orientation of the sun in the morning, afternoon and evening. The research methodology is descriptive data simulation results using the ecotech program application and analysing the illumination value of natural light distribution results. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of shading on the entry of light into the building and whether the orientation and position of the sun affects the shadows. The results showed that the illuminance value of natural light in the east-west direction was higher than that in the north-south direction. This research also shows that building shadows affect the distribution of natural light and the construction of the results of this research can be a guide in planning energy-efficient buildings.
