Abstract

Abstract Stingless bees are social insects that are rich in benefits because they can produce honey and other products that are beneficial for health and have high nutritional content; one type of stingless bee widely cultivated is Tetragonula sarawakensis . This study aims to analyze the productivity and characteristics of T. sarawakensis bees. The method used in this study was direct observation using three T. sarawakensis colonies that were maintained for three months during the rainy season. The variables observed included the number of honey pots, bee bread, nest weight, and nest characteristics consisting of nest shape, funnel length, diameter, color, and funnel material. At the same time, the data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The study’s results showed that the average production of T. sarawakensis bees was 18 pots of honey and five pots of bee bread, and the average nest weight was 266 grams. In contrast, the characteristics of the T. sarawakensis bee nest were irregular in shape. According to the room’s shape, the nest entrance funnel had an average diameter of 1.4 cm and an average length of 0.1 cm, made of propolis and dark brown wax.
